Thinking of starting a Auto Detailing Business?

There are several things one must consider when planning on opening an auto detailing service. Although there are risks, the reward is there, and is quite an incentive. There are many things one needs to consider when attempting to open any new detailing business. Competition is a huge factor, are there many local competitors for your idea? Two things that are possibly the most important questions you need to ask yourself are how will the project get funding and who will run the business.

Make Sure You Have All your Details in Order

If you plan on investing your own capitol or receiving loans from investors either way you will need to establish a budget. Start by considering the initial cost of the start-up. Some things you will need are a place of business or a company vehicle if you plan on offering mobile service. When choosing a location or a mobile option, consider the permits necessary for each scenario. If you have a physical address you will need to fit within the proper zoning which may affect the cost of the space. If you go with a mobile detail business you may run into many environmental regulations such as chemical diapers being required under each vehicle being cleaned. Initially a stock of cleaning agents will be necessary including soaps, shampoos, waxes, shams, rags, brushes, sponges and air fresheners. You will need to decide to offer chemical cleaners or perhaps a more modern organic chemical free cleaning option will suit your customers better (you will have to research this). Another major expense many new car detailing business owners overlook is advertising. This can be one of your biggest and most returned investments. A business no one knows about rarely tops the profit charts. Radio advertisements can be very expensive but are a great way of getting your message out to the local community. Make sure you can afford this because spending money to advertise an under-funded business does no good.

Opening a business… It’s all about the Details

Who is going to run this auto detailing business? If you said yourself that is great, but also limits the number of clients you can handle. By taking on a group of employees you open up the possibility of growing beyond what you can handle by yourself. That being said, it can be expensive taking on a staff, therefore you may need to run the detail business by yourself until you can afford the extra help. When or if you decide to hire someone consider the cost of Social Security, workers comp, insurance, payroll, and other benefits. Hiring an employee entails much more than the coast of labor.

  1. Market,Market,Market,Market did I mention Market. Everyday you should be doing something to get your name out there. Work on your website, pass out flyers, blogging whatever it takes to get the word out Market! Word of mouth is great and pays great dividends but sometimes it takes to long. Try to make it a point to talk to 10 people a day and see the results.
